Josephine Elizabeth Davis, 97, of La Veta, CO passed away peacefully on January 102018. She was an amazing woman who was loved and respected by many. She was preceded in death by her husband Estel, brothers Gerald and Charles, sister Margaret, children Norman, Donald and Cheryl, son-in-law Leland, and grandchild Eugene. She is survived by her sisters Kathryn and Violet, son Alvin, daughters-in-law Diane and Ethel, grandchildren David, Cheryl, Lanette, Alan, Donna, Malinda, Randy, Colleen, Michael, Candace, Shannon and Jerry,27 great grandchildren, and 28 great, great grandchildren.Josephine was born June 19, 1920 in Elgin, OK to Charles Gee and Mada Jane Johnson, She moved to CO as a child in a covered wagon. At age 18, she married Estel Arthur Davis Oct. 20, 1938 in the Methodist Church in Walsenburg, CO. The couple raised a family while ranching and farming in Las Animas County and later in La Junta, CO. After Estel's death in 1970, Josie continued to play a role in the family ranching and farming business. She moved to La Veta around 2002 near her daughter Norma who assisted her later in life. Josephine was a source of strength, stability, and common sense for all who knew her, especially her family. She was valued for her honesty, practicality and faithfulness. She will be missed dearly. Funeral Mass, 10:30am Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the United Church of Walsenburg with burial at the Huerfano Masonic Cemetery, Walsenburg, CO.
