Obituary for Gloria Juanita "Jennie" Manzanares

Jennie Manzanares, 75, of Walsenburg died October 21, 2018 after a short illness.

Jennie was born on April 24, 1943 in Ruth, Nevada to Ben and Margaret Manzanares, and lived in Nevada for a very short time, moving back to Colorado when she was about 2 years old.

Jennie attended school up to the eighth grade, having to quit because she developed epilepsy. She never married but had many nieces and nephews to take the place of her own children. Many of them had interesting stories growing up with Auntie Jennie. She loved them all and never forgot them, especially around Christmas time. She sold Avon for many years, and she was her own best customer, especiallly around Christmas time. She sold Avon for many years, and she was her own best customer, especially jewelry. She did however have her own babies, two poodles, Twinkle and Star, and her pet geese, Pepsi, Poka Dot (the duck), Baby and Mama. Jennie was a great Elvis fan and had a collection of Elvis pictures, music, even a guitar clock. She had so much fun at the Elvis Tribute at the local theatre, even going up to get a kiss and an Elvis scarf.

Jennie is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Margaret, two sisters, Virginia Gallegos, Theresa Cordova. and brother, Charlie Chavez. Her grandmothers, Delfina Chavez and Teofila Flores, and several other relatives. She is survived by three sisters,Barbara Manzanares, Eleanor (Dan) Gomez, Delphine Ortega, brothers, Raymond (Carolyn) Chavez, James (Joann) Chavez, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Jennie will be at 10:00am Thursday, October 25th at the United Church of Walsenburg with burial at the North Veta Cemetery Walsenburg. Any donations can be made to our local Animal Shelter in her name.
