Obituary for Carolyn Electra Sudar (Davis)

Carolyn Electra Sudar (Davis)
Carolyn Electra Sudar 9~19~1936 ~ 8~23~2018

Carolyn was born at the corner of Hooper and Indiana in Walsenburg to Carl O. Davis and Ruth C. Davis nee Ridge. She is survived by daughters Jaye Sudar (Dan Harper) of Walsenburg, CO, Lori Kesler (Bill) of Litleton, CO, and Jill Brogdon of Denver, CO, sister-in-law Toni Laumbach (Karl) of Las Cruces, NM; grandsons Erin, Stefan, Bryan and Daniel Thomas, Dayne Bieghler, Sean Kesler, Cameron Miller, and Matthew Harper; granddaughters Frances Miller, Morgan Harper and Natalie Stellmach (Darryl); nephews Matthew Novotny and Kristopher Laumbach; nine great-grandchildren: many other relatives and friends.
Carolyn grew up in Walsenburg, attending Washington Elementary and Hill School. Carolyn and her friends Betty and Ardeth made up the ABC club. At her 5th Birthday party, one of the other children, Jon Sudar, demanded cake before he would give her her present. She was part of the band program, and played the trumpet.
At 14, the family moved to Littleton, Colorado. She attended Littleton High School, where she played in the band and was the school newspaper editor. She worked in downtown Littleton at Milner's bakery, Sell-4-Less drugstore, and Littleton National Bank.
On St. Patrick's Day in 1956, she went out on a date with Jon Sudar. They married eighteen months later on July 19, 1958. They eloped to Raton, New Mexico.
Carolyn was civically active. She was a volunteer in the schools when her children were small, very politically active, working the polling stations during elections. She worked at Arapahoe Community College Bookstore from 1974-1991 and again at the local bank from 1991-1996. Carolyn worked as a library board member in the Grand Canyon National Park. After she and Jon retired and returned from the Grand Canyon, she was a member of the Spanish Peaks Library District Friends of the Library.
Carolyn's weekends were spent in the mountains with her family. She loved camping, picnics and hiking. The family traveled all over the Western United States and in Canada. She traveled to Spain and England as well to visit Jaye and her family. She enjoyed gardening, going to concerts was a crew member on a hot air balloon. She was a diehard Bronco fan, having an orange cat named Elway, and as much Bronco "stuff" as her family could find her. Carolyn was a good friend, neighbor and always had a joke to tell. She said she always got the best ones from her dentist. Carolyn was great at bringing people together.
She often said that some of her best accomplishments were hot air ballooning, hikes in the Canyon or climbing up Mt. Whitney, while her greatest accomplishments were her daughters. She missed Jon a lot over the last three years. Now she is free to head out the door with her backpack on her shoulder to go hiking with him.
Per her request there will be no funeral or memorial services. Carolyn requested that donations be made to the Spanish Peaks Public Library's Children's Library. She loved to read and wants others to share that joy.
